Brief History


Cooperative Department was first set up in December 1904 in Pyin Oo Lwin
( Maymyo ), in accordance with the Cooperative Credit Societies Act of 1904. With the time, the department was redressed to cope with the changing situation and the present day organizational structure is as follows:-

Responsibilities
The Cooperative Department is responsible for such functions as regulatory, organization, education and supervision to improve the Cooperative movement. This Department will assist in the formation and development of cooperative societies in accordance with their basic principles. Another main function of the Department is that it is empowered to advise and supervise the economic activities of the cooperative societies and keep them to be in line with the Government policy.
